"Integrity is not negotiable." Retired three-star General Peter Kind shared his leadership experience with the graduates at the commencement ceremony of the University of North America (UoNA).
UoNA held its annual commencement ceremony on October 18th at the renowned Center for Innovative Technology near Dulles Airport. Graduates and their friends and families attended the ceremony to celebrate their success.
As the commencement speaker, retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Peter A. Kind emphasized the importance of ethics and principles with examples from his long and prestigious career in the military and intelligence community.
After retiring from the military, Gen. Kind continues to serve at the Institute for Defense Analyses where he is the Director of the DARPA Information Science and Technology Study Group.
He has served in public and private sector C-level management and CIO positions, commanded the largest technical training facility in the free world and is chairman of two non-profit boards. He created and directed the White House Information Coordination Center for the Y2K millennium rollover and directed the White House Office of Homeland Security Coordination Center after 9/11.
General Kind’s U.S. Army command and staff service includes special forces, airmobile, airborne and armored divisions, signal, logistics, acquisition and worldwide US and NATO communications and information technology operations, culminating as Chief Information Officer/G-6 of the U.S. Army.

General Kind is a graduate of the Joint Flag Officers Warfighting Course, the U.S. Army War College, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the U.S. Marine Corps Communications and Amphibious Warfare Advanced Course, and holds a BS degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an MBA degree from Harvard.
UoNA Chairman Marty Martin encouraged the graduates in his address to continue to reach high and be ready to adapt because change is one thing that is certain in the development of anyone’s career. Shruti Naik who received a Master of Science in Information Technology degree and Padmanjali S. Pokharel who was awarded a Doctor of Business Administration degree touched the audience when they shared their experiences at UoNA as the graduate speakers.
Thirty one students from four different programs were eligible for graduation at this ceremony. UoNA Dean Jason Koo, faculty members Dr. David Harper, Dr. David Frick and Dr. Al Gorriaran presented the graduates with their hoods and diplomas.
